Ordynka - the street that led to the Horde

Ordynka - the street that led to the Horde #1

Sometime in the distant past, this is one of the oldest streets Zamoskvorechye led a formidable Horde. Its inhabitants were the representatives of the merchant class, the middle of the clergy, and artisans. And here lived Horde - people whose main duty is to transport and send the collected tribute from Russian principalities in the Horde. Perhaps it is because of their presence here street and was named Big Ordynka.

Another interesting fact about this street is that this is the only street of old Moscow, which kept all their churches, but they are neither more nor less - five. In addition, there remained a lot of old buildings, but about everything in order.

One end of the street is limited to the Garden Ring, the other - in large and small Moskvoretsky bridge, behind which - Vasilevsky descent and Red Square.

So we begin our move from the Kremlin in the direction of the Garden Ring, as though we were the ones most Horde and transported to a tribute to the once great medieval state.

After a few beautiful old homes, we can not ignore the house 17, in which very often lived Anna Akhmatova. By the way, staying here is not only a poet but also Osip Mandelstam, Mikhail Bulgakov, Joseph Brodsky, Mikhail Zoshchenko, Boris Pasternak, Faina Ranevskaya, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Dmitry Shostakovich, and many others. At the moment it is a regular house.

A little more, and right in our path will be the first church - the Church of Our Lady of All the Afflicted. It is expected that the first church on this site was put at the beginning of the XVI century and the first stone church was built in 1685. One hundred years later it was replaced by an existing church. It is interesting that during the Great Patriotic War, was placed inside the temple Zapasnik Tretyakov Gallery, and after its opening in 1948 here in 1966, Anna Akhmatova's funeral.

We pass on and do not forget to look around, so do not miss the house 21 - City-Zhemochkina estate Dolgov, which appeared at the end of the XVIII century on the foundations of houses over a century and a house 24, which located the State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom". Although, judging by the size of the house, let it be very difficult.

Then begins a series of buildings that have become hallmark street. This is the Church of St. Nicholas in Pyzhah, built between 1670 and 1672 years (the church was closed in the early 30s, but in 1991 the service was resumed), Martha and Mary Convent Sisters of Mercy, founded in Moscow in 1908, the widow of Grand Duke Sergei Elizabeth Feodorovna Alexandrovich and the Temple of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God on Vspolye built on Ordynka in place once stood in the years 1791-1802 the church on the merchant Savina in the classical style.

Very interesting building, which comes immediately after the church - a house 41 - formerly the Family Nest merchants Morozov, built in 1821 and acquired in 1875 by Timothy Savic Morozov, a merchant of the 1st guild owned textile 'Association Morozov son and Co ". After the revolution at this location housed the People's Court, then various other organizations, while in 1993 the building has not privatized large businessman Moshe Kantor. In the courtyard is a sculpture of the Morozov's mansion "Rebirth" of Ernst Unknown, which depicts the Archangel Michael, ascended into heaven.

After a couple of houses on the left will house 45 start of the XIX century, known as the homestead Arseniev. Incidentally, the house is not built of stone, and of wooden frame, but only painted like a stone. Behind him is a house 47, where in 1864 founded the Alexander and Mary Zamoskvoretsky School. Now here is the Moscow Pedagogical College named number 1 Ushinskogo, now renamed the College.

Last church that meets in our way - is the Church of Great Martyr Catherine Vspolye, built on the site to commemorate the reign of Empress Catherine II. By the way, after the Revolution the church values   passed to the proletariat (April 6, 1922 there were seized 11 pounds 33 pounds 72 spool of gold and silver jewelry), and in 1931, Catherine's church was closed.

And at the end of the street can not go past another couple of buildings, for example, house 70, which is now the Embassy of Kenya, and earlier this mansion belonged to the honorary citizen Osipov, who was a merchant of the 1st Guild, founder of the Firm "K. Osipov and Co." . Unfortunately, the trading house was ruined Osipov, and in 1908 was sold for debt.

And right behind him, on the left, do not miss the building branch of the Little Theatre, rebuilt in 1914 by architect Spirin.

Topic: "Rosatom", "Rebirth", XVI, XVIII, XIX
